This is the inaugural issue of the South Carolina Diversity Council’s electronic newsletter. Produced quarterly by the Council in cooperation with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, this newsletter seeks to increase awareness of diversity issues in the workplace and provide a wide array of tools and “best practices” to assist companies in their own diversity initiatives.

The mission of the South Carolina Diversity Council is to encourage, support and educate business and industry leaders as they seek to value and strengthen diversity in the workplace.

Contributors to this quarter’s edition include Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina (Recipient of the 2005 South Carolina Diversity in the Workplace award), Fisher & Phillips LLP and Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.

UPDATE ON NEW EEO-1 REPORT

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has evaluated comments submitted by employers, civil rights groups, and other interested parties about the proposed revisions to the EEO-1 report. The EEO-1 Report requires employers with 100 or more employees and federal contractors with 50 or more employees and federal contracts of $50,000 or more to provide a count of their employees by job category and ethnicity, race, and gender.

The 16th Annual Human Resources and Employment Law Conference
Sponsored by the Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart P.C., the conference is set for May 3-5, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Hilton Head Beach Resort.
