Welcome to what I hope you will find to be a useful new newsletter…not that anyone needs more emails! We are hoping to keep our local chamber “family” more in touch with some of the things going on here at the Ohio Chamber by doing a periodic (and hopefully always short) update.
So here goes the first one….
On the legislative front, hold onto your hats as the new Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, Bill Batchelder has announced they already have 109 bills drafted and ready to consider for passage for the new 129th Ohio General Assembly - which was officially sworn in on January 3rd. When you consider in past general assembly’s you would not get to bill 109 until the third or fourth month of session, things will be interesting!
Hopefully by now you have received the invitation to nominate a company for our Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award to be presented at our annual meeting in May. The winning company will receive a $25,000 check and the chamber that sends us that nominee will receive $1,000. The Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, which nominated the winner last year, used their award money to set up a similar local entrepreneurship award! All you need to do is send us a name and address; we will do all the rest.
Also we are pleased to announce that our annual meeting speaker will be Alan Mulally, President & CEO of the Ford Motor Company. The meeting is set for Tuesday, May 10th and we will again be hosting “Chamber Day at the Capital” as part of our programming. Watch your mail for further details.
