NIAR hires John Moore as Senior Advisor

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University has hired John E. Moore as senior advisor to the executive director.

Moore served as Lieutenant Governor of Kansas from 2003 to 2007. He also served as Secretary of Commerce for 2003 and 2004. Moore then served as chair of the Governor's Strategic Military Planning Commission. He continues to serve as chair of the Governor's Military Council.

Moore is a perfect fit for NIAR,” said Dr. John Tomblin, NIAR’s executive director. “His background in the aircraft industry as well as government and non-profits will be an excellent asset to the Institute.”

Prior to being Lieutenant Governor, Moore was an executive vice president of Cessna Aircraft Company. He is also a past chairman of the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation, a partnership focused on economic development that provides 2.5% of NIAR’s annual funding. At the state level, Moore is a past chair of The Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Kansas, Inc.

As NIAR’s senior advisor to the executive director, Moore is responsible for identifying various research and strategic opportunities as well as new economic and workforce development initiatives that can involve NIAR. He will also interface with elected officials at all levels, the aviation industry and academia to help NIAR achieve its full potential.

"I have worked with NIAR for over a decade in several different capacities,” Moore said. “I fully appreciate its importance to the aviation industry, Kansas aviation companies and the state's economy. I am pleased to be formally associated with the organization."

Moore was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He received a B.S. in commerce from Washington and Lee University and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. He and his family moved to Wichita in 1982, and he has had a strong philanthropic presence in the Wichita area. Moore is a founder and former president of the Kansas Foodbank Warehouse, former chairman for the United Way of the Plains and former board member and president of the Wichita Children’s Home.
