Yet Missouri, at the end of the year, taxes them on money they've never seen, and I think it's wrong, and I think it's long overdue that that's corrected."



Muschany proposal would reverse Missouri's largest tax increase

Tracy Weddle, Missouri Chamber director of taxation and fiscal affairs, testified in favor of a bill this week to undo the largest tax increase in the state's history.

The Missouri Chamber works to protect employers from expanded premises liability


Missouri Chamber Legislative Consultant Michael Grote testified in favor of a bill sponsored by Rep. Stan Cox to ensure that business owners are not legally liable for guarding against illegal third party activity on their property.  



Alternative certification process would help state fill teacher shortages 

Missouri Chamber Vice President of Governmental Affairs Trey Davis testified this week that Missouri lawmakers should to authorize a new certification process to train teachers for Missouri classrooms.  




Federal compliance effort would allow motor carriers to register in Missouri 

Since Missouri is currently not in compliance with the federal regulations, Missouri carriers must go to other states to register, meaning Missouri loses out on about $2 million in fees each year.   



Bill to increase telecom competition passed out of committee

On a 6-5 vote, the House Special Committee on Utilities approved House Bill 1779. The bill would increase competition and help ensure Missourians are getting excellent service for a good value.  



Sen. Shields aims at eliminating campaign contribution limits

Sen. Charlie Shields, a Republican from St. Joseph, wants to delete the state's current limits on campaign contributions. His proposal also requires contributions larger than $5,000 to be reported within 48 hours.



Economic stimulus package to benefit businesses

The $169 billion federal economic stimulus package signed into law this week by President George W. Bush will give businesses a boost through increased federal deductions for purchasing new equipment.
