Class XXVII Applications Available!

If you've requested that an application be mailed to a candidate, or if you've been waiting to provide a candidate with an application, or if you've been meaning to recruit a candidate, now is the time to follow up!   Applications must be postmarked by no later than May 9, 2008 in order to be accepted.

Please take time to consider right now the person to whom you will give this application. We all know the difference Leadership Florida has made in our lives, and the potential it holds for Florida. It is our responsibility to seek out candidates who will benefit from participation in Leadership Florida, and even more importantly, will contribute to its strength.

Selection for participation in the Leadership Florida program has become increasingly competitive. A large percentage of the members of this year's class are presidents, senior/executive vice presidents, or executive directors of their corporations or organizations. And a significant percentage of them applied at least once before being selected. It's important that Class XXVII be representative of Florida's many diversities - professionally, geographically, philosophically, and in terms of age, gender, race and ethnicity. Please keep this in mind when recruiting new members. I'm sure you remember what a difference those kinds of diversity made to your class experience. Please also seek out candidates from major Florida corporations and organizations that have not previously had participants in the program.

As you know, there are many factors that go into creating a dynamic class, but the most important one is a complete and compelling application. Please encourage your recruit to put her or his modesty aside and let the Selection Committee know why she or he should be a member of Class XXVII.

Once the applications have been received by the Leadership Florida office, this is what will happen:

1) all applications will be mailed to the seventeen members of the Selection Committee, who were chosen with careful regard to a balanced representation of our membership;

2) the committee members will read every application, rating each on a scale from 1-5; they'll then send their rating sheets to the LF office, where the ratings for each candidate will be averaged;

3) after committee members have submitted their initial ratings, LF members will be advised of the Selection Committee members' names and contact info and be encouraged to provide committee members with additional information that will assist them in the next stage of the process;

4) committee members will contact all of the references provided by the candidates;

5) the committee will meet to put together a class that is dynamic and whose diversity will add to each class member's learning experience;

6) candidates will be advised of the results of the selection process in early July.

We look forward to another LF class to be proud of. Thanks for all of your help, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Wendy Abberger
President
