Currently 128 alumni have chosen this membership option, where Lifetime Members make a pledge of $6,000 to the Leadership Florida Alumni Endowment Fund and when the entire gift is completed, the donor is no longer responsible for paying annual dues.
Over the long term - and most of our members intend on being involved in Leadership Florida for the long haul - this is a great deal!
The entire gift is tax-deductible and strengthens the health of Leadership Florida, allowing it the sound financial footing it needs to continue to fulfill its mission and serve its members. Pledges can be paid all at once (there is a 10% discount for gifts paid in one lump sum) or extended over a period of time up to five years.

For more information on becoming a Lifetime Member contact Chris Lucas at (850) 521-1235.

A Note from Prairie Days...
|
| "Thank you for the Prairie Days experience. The swamp buggy ride opened a whole new world for us. Who knew that bull cows dug “bull holes” to lie in? Or that turkeys make a lot of noise as they crash land in an oak hammock? How awesome it was to see pines that you and your buddies planted 20 years ago standing tall in the distance. And to hear stories of sleeping in a palmetto scrub and being nudged awake by wild hogs. Thank you for letting us watch the fawn, the soon-to-be mother doe, and the buck with a velvety new rack, the bulls head-butting, and the big turtle playing chicken with our swamp buggy. Thank you for the engaging Cowboy Poet Laureate and saloon girls who teach Sunday school on the side and call the older gentlemen “sir”, and mean it. And for the chance to see spurs and chaps close-up, to hear Mac Martin (XXII) sing, for the ancient, nostalgic smell of the camp fire; and the sunset over the Florida prairie. The beef and onions were the best I have ever tasted in my life. Being with Leadership Florida friends among the sights, sounds, and smells of old Florida - you can't beat that..."

Annual Meeting Spotlight: Ten Books Every Floridian Should Read
|
Jeff Klinkenberg, author of Seasons of Real Florida, has spent a lifetime reading and writing about Florida culture, and has found inspiration in many books about our state. He offers a list of works that should be on every Floridian’s bookshelf. |
Born in 1949, Klinkenberg grew up in Miami, and began exploring the Florida Keys and the Everglades as a small boy. He started working at The Miami News when he was 16 and later became a journalism graduate of the University of Florida. He has worked at the St. Petersburg Times since 1977.
Klinkenberg is the only two-time winner of the Paul Hansell Distinguished Journalism Award, the highest honor in state journalism, given annually by the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, to the writer with the best body of work.

Seven times his columns and stories have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. An adjunct instructor in the University of Florida's College of Journalism, he has written for magazines that include Esquire, Outside, Travel and Leisure, and Audubon. His spoken essays are often broadcast on public radio.
"If Jeff Klinkenberg isn't careful, he might give journalism a good name," says author Carl Hiaasen. "He has a rare eye for marvelous detail, and an affectionate ear for those small, wise, bittersweet voices that tell the true story of Florida."
