GC Showcase Turns Out the Numbers! 4th time the charm; more than 1000 attend
ABC and The Bluebook of Building and Construction teamed up this year to present the biggest and best construction-related event to hit Baltimore in years. Held this year at Martin's West, the GC Showcase presented a unique opportunity for general and subcontractors alike to "look each other in the eye" and talk about the possibilities of doing business together. "We call it the 'Ultimate Networking Event'" said ABC Chair Kathy Wilmot. "For many people, this event serves no other purpose than to put a face to a name. And for many of us who strive to be more than just a name or a fax number, that's a big deal." More than 50 general contractors displayed their wares while scores of subcontractors and suppliers wandered the aisles. "We couldn't be more pleased with the results," said Wilmot. "The Bluebook really helped make this happen. They've been a great partner for us." Scared to Look at Your 401k? Hardesty's Stock Market Update; 9/28
These days, opening to the business section of your newspaper can be a scary proposition. With the scare caused by the scandle of sub-prime mortgages, and the difficulties facing the banking and residential markets, the Dow Jones has been on quite a roller coaster these past several weeks. It is because of this uncertaintity that ABC will be hosting a special briefing from our financial advisors, Hardesty Capital, on Friday, September 28 at 8 a.m. Contact Dannie to register. Calling all Volunteers: October 13 Rodeo Proceeds to help Kid's Chance of MD
In a matter of weeks, we expect literally hundreds (thousands?) of contractors and their families to descend upon Oregon Ridge for our 2nd Annual Equipment Rodeo. Between the heavy equipment operator contests (backhoe loaders and skid-steer loaders); the Lego building contest for 5th graders; games; food and parking, we will be stretched to our breaking point for volunteers. The Rodeo is a huge undertaking for our talented, but overworked Events Committee. Last year it rained non-stop and we still had 500 visitors show up. Oregon Ridge told us last year that the weeks preceeding the event they received more phone calls regarding the Rodeo than any other event in their history. So, should the sun rise on October 13 to clear skies, we fully expect to have a thousand or more visitors to Oregon Ridge. If you want a chance to give back and help ABC raise money for a very important cause, please give Dannie or Kristin at call at our office (410.821.0351). Thanks!
Big shout out to Sunbelt Rentals and Hilti Tools for their hard work and support for this year's event.
 Race for the Cure; 10/14
Please show your support to the Women in ABC and join our team for the race. It is being held in Hunt Valley the day after the Equipment Rodeo. We know it will be a busy weekend for all of us but we could really use your support. Enjoy a great day of fellowship and exercise; and be back at home by noon. "It’s awesome to feel like a part of something so big that works to make a huge difference in the lives of Breast Cancer patients," said committee chair, Jean Maisel.
