A Wholly Unique Event
Women in ABC Target Private Schools
Sophomore and Junior girls from six of Baltimore’s most prestigious private girls’ schools donned hard hats and trudged through a very muddy jobsite to hear about many of the professional career opportunities available to them in the construction industry. The goal, said event organizer Martha Elliott, from CAM Construction, was to reach students before they made their final decision on which college to attend and which major to choose.
Among the speakers, were Diane E. Cho, from Cho Benn Holback Architects, Inc; Judith A. Carroll, P.E., from Carroll Engineering; interior designer/space planner Karen Sugar of Sugar Associates; Priscilla Carroll of Struever Bros. Eccles and Rouse, Special Secretary Sharon Pinder of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, and Maureen Bands with Henry H. Lewis Contractors, LLC. In fact, the event was held on the jobsite of Henry H. Lewis’ renovation and addition to Gilman School in the historic Carey Library. “We are really pleased with the girls’ level of enthusiasm,” said Elliott. “The speakers were terrific and clearly the girls learned something new. I know this event is something we can build upon for the future.”

Help ABC Help Those in Need
Skilled Craftsmen needed !
On Saturday, April 28, a team of ABC volunteers will be headed out to Govans to help make some very necessary renovations to the home of an elderly woman. More than anything, we could use some skilled tradesmen and women to help us repair electrical switches and receptacles; replace old and leaking plumbing fixtures and some carpentry work.
Mitch Kearney, with Kearney, Drechsler & Awalt, LLC, and the chapter’s attorney, is heading up the project with help from Jim Stahl of mechanical contractor James C. Stahl. “What we learned from last year’s experience,” said Kearney, “is that while we were blessed with an abundance of volunteers, we really need some electricians, plumbers and carpenters with the more technically demanding work.” If you can volunteer your time or that of your skilled workers, please contact Mitch or ABC’s Mike Henderson.
